Research teachers of Liceo del Verbo Divino, Inc. (LVD) participated in the 2024 Research Summit of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) with the theme "Engaging Catholic Schools in Transformative Education through Research and Innovation" on April 24-25, 20224 at Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan Auditorium (Macasandig).
The summit primarily aims to provide an enabling venue for CEAP member-schools to be updated with the trends and practices in conducting research. As a member school, LVD responded to its invitation by allowing its research teachers, Mr. Lauro Jr. J. Cantero and Mr. Ronnie O. Daganasol, to participate and engage in the summit where various research experts elucidated the multifaceted significance of research in education. They emphasized how research serves as the cornerstone for innovation, knowledge advancement, and evidence-based decision-making in academic institutions.
Research is an ongoing search for what fulfills and completes a person fueled by curiosity to yield knowledge. Msgr. Manual S. Bravo, the CEAP Research Committee Chairperson, emphasized in his homily during the opening eucharistic celebration that whatever we have found must be shared and credited to God because we believe in Him. In fact, research brings peace to the restless heart, and the search will only be over when we learn to rest in Him.
The first day was marked by the talk of Dr. Joselito C. Gutierrez, an esteemed Executive Assistant to the President of Saint Louis University. During the first parallel learning session, he delivered a compelling discourse. His insights shed light on best practices in transformative education through research, particularly focusing on the realm of basic education.
On the second day of the summit, the event continued with Plenary Session 2 which delved into the mechanisms for enabling research in educational institutions. Dr. Samuel F. Macagba, Dr. Dennis V. Madrigal, and Dr. Richard R. Jugar presented exemplars of completed research in various academic domains. Dr. Macagba shared insights on research in basic education highlighting innovative methodologies and the impact of research on teaching and learning outcomes. Moreover, Dr. Madrigal explored the nuances of research in Higher Education, emphasizing the role of research in curriculum development, faculty development, and institutional advancement. Lastly, Dr. Jugar illuminated the landscape of Institutional Research, showcasing how research informs strategic planning, policy formulation, and institutional effectiveness.
The summit provided a platform for fruitful discussions and knowledge exchange among participants from diverse academic backgrounds. Attendees engaged in dynamic conversations about the challenges and opportunities inherent in conducting research in educational settings. The sessions fostered a collaborative atmosphere, where attendees shared their experiences, insights, and best practices in research. The interactive nature of the summit encouraged networking and collaboration among educators, researchers, and administrators, fostering a vibrant research community dedicated to advancing education through rigorous inquiry.
Furthermore, it underscored the imperative for continuous capacity building and professional development in research. Participants gained valuable insights into research methodologies, data analysis techniques, and ethical considerations in research. Workshops and breakout sessions provided practical guidance on enhancing research competencies and fostering a culture of research excellence within educational institutions. The emphasis on capacity building reaffirmed the commitment to nurturing skilled researchers capable of addressing the complex challenges facing education today.
Through illuminating keynote speeches, engaging panel discussions, and interactive workshops, the summit facilitated a deep understanding of the transformative power of research in driving educational innovation and excellence. As participants return to their respective institutions, they carry a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to advancing education through rigorous inquiry and scholarly engagement. The summit served as a catalyst for collective action, inspiring educators and researchers to embark on a journey of discovery, innovation, and continuous improvement in pursuit of educational excellence.
